Cliffe Dekker's competition practice group comprises a strong team of four directors and four other specialist competition law attorneys. The team works together as a cohesive unit from Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Our attorneys are highly trained in all aspects of competition work including opposed and unopposed merger clearance applications, exemption applications, defending and prosecuting complaints in respect of alleged anti-competitive behaviour and bringing leniency applications. We have successfully represented clients in all local competition law forums, including the South African Supreme Court of Appeal.

We act for national and international listed and unlisted corporate and institutional clients who are active in a diverse range of sectors, including banking, beverages, automotive, gas, oil, mining, healthcare, airlines and telecommunications.

Senior members of our competition team have appreciable experience in related areas of business law practice, particularly mergers and acquisitions and litigation. The head of our competition practice group, Mondo Ntlha, has experience within the Competition Commission, as a former office bearer (head of the Legal Services Division and acting Deputy Commissioner). This collective experience ensures that our team has an in-depth insightful understanding of competition and business law practice.
