Hans Evenhuis is a senior director active in both the Finance, Projects and Banking practice and the Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice of Cliffe Dekker's Johannesburg office. With more than 30 years experience, he plays a leading role in both practices, and has been involved in some of the landmark transactions in these. Hans specialises in banking, securities and securities exchanges, corporate, commercial contracts, pensions and employee benefits, information technology. Through his involvement in the Netherlands South Africa Chamber of Commerce, Hans is active in EU/South African business relations.

Hans began his career at Cliffe Dekker & Todd as a candidate attorney in 1973. In 1977, he spent a year at Nederlandsche Middenstandsbank NV, Amsterdam. Hans retuned to Cliffe Dekker & Todd in 1978, as an associate. He was promoted to the position of partner in 1979. From 1987 to 1995, Hans was a partner at Kemp Evenhuis. In 1995, he rejoined Cliffe Dekker & Todd Inc. as a director, when the two firms merged.

• Advised Nedbank Ltd in regard to the re-negotiation of a card processing outsourcing contract with a major European banking group

• Advised Nedgroup Pension Fund in regard to its fund surplus apportionment between employer and fund members

• Advised Bond Exchange of South Africa in regard to various new products and activities

• Advised Payments Association of South Africa in regard to the establishment of fora for special interest groups, and prepared a template constitution for such fora

• Advised in regard to various projects involving Nedbank Ltd, Old Mutual Group and Mutual and Federal Insurance Company of SA Ltd aimed at deriving synergy and cost benefits from common supply strategies

• Advised Ciba Specialty Chemicals in regard to disposal of a division, and in regard to a restructuring of its capital
