Chris Charter specialises in competition and general corporate
and commercial law He has extensive experience in both merger control and
prohibited practices and has advised corporate clients generally on compliance
with competition legislation. Chris also has experience in general corporate
and commercial law including company law, corporate restructures and mergers
and acquisitions. He has also been involved in various regulatory matters,
including those pertaining to telecommunications, medicines and consumer law.

Chris began his career as a Candidate Attorney at Cliffe
Dekker Inc in 2001. He became an Associate in 2003 and was promoted to Senior
Associate in 2005. In 2007, Chris was made a Director. |

- Successfully obtained merger clearance for the South
African leg of Lufthansa's global acquisition of Swiss International
Airlines
- Successfully obtained merger clearance in South Africa for
the merger of Verizon Communications Inc and MCI Inc.
- Assisted in obtaining merger clearance for Ellerines'
acquisition of Relyant Retail
- Advising clients in the beverage industry on compliance
with competition legislation
- Part of the team advising CCMP Asia Limited on the
acquisition of Waco Limited, a company with interests in South Africa,
Australia, New Zealand, Namibia and Zimbabwe, in South Africa's largest ever
private equity transaction having a value of R5.4 billion
- Assisted Lonmin plc in the reorganisation and restructure
of certain major South African operating subsidiaries, a well as the recent
acquisition by Lonmin of Afriore Limited
- Acted as chairperson during a two day conference on the
Consumer Protection Bill
- Successfully defended Independent Newspapers in complaint
proceedings brought by Mandla-Matla Publishing under the Competition Act
- Currently part of the legal team acting for Business
Connexion Group Limited in regard to merger proceedings with Telkom Limited
before the Competition Tribunal
